Old East Village

Historic Dundas Street, a weekend market and a creative streak.

Old East Village

Old East Village grew up around London East's factories and rail lines in the late 1800s, and much of that history is still visible in its brick storefronts and modest workers' cottages. After big employers such as Kellogg's closed, the neighbourhood reinvented itself. The old Kellogg's plant is now The Factory, an indoor entertainment complex with a hotel, and Dundas Street has filled in with independent restaurants and shops.

Weekends often start at The Market at Western Fair District, a year-round market with farmers and artisans on the Western Fair grounds. The Palace Theatre, Banting House and leafy Queens Park add to the area's charm. For buyers who love older homes and don't mind a neighbourhood still in transition, it offers plenty of character close to downtown.
